CMS To Make It Easier For Consumers To Discover Which Nursing Homes Have Violations Related To Abuse, Neglect.

Kim Khon

Modern Healthcare (10/7, Brady, Subscription Publication) reports that on Monday, CMS “announced…it would make it easier for consumers to find out about nursing homes that have violated rules about abuse, neglect or exploitation.” The article says CMS’ “Nursing Home Compare website will add an icon next to nursing homes with reported violations starting on Oct. 23. The website provides detailed information about each Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the U.S.” The piece adds that this “new icon is an effort to increase transparency, a consistent theme from the CMS under Seema Verma’s leadership.”

FierceHealthcare (10/7, King) quotes Verma as saying in a statement, “With today’s action, the Trump Administration is putting critical information at consumers’ fingertips, empowering them and incentivizing nursing homes to compete on cost and quality.”
